A story for The World about the “Hero, Villain, Yeti” exhibit now up at the Rubin Museum in Manhattan. It explores the history of comic book interpretations (and misinterpretations) of Tibet, beginning with the first issue of the “Green Lama” in 1944.

Panel from Green Lama no. 1

Panel from Green Lama no. 1 with Jethro Dumont (who becomes the Green Lama) trailed by his trusty Tibetan sidekick Tsarong. The musical group One Ring Zero composed a score to accompany a live projection of the comic book, I took this picture at their rehearsal.
